PURPOSE:To lessen the contact friction and driving load of a tape and to prevent the damage of the tape by providing the contact surface of a stationary drum and the tape with ruggedness not parallel with a tape traveling direction and floating the tape from this stationary drum at the time of a low tape speed. CONSTITUTION:A rotary drum 3 which supports a magnetic head 4 rotates in a direction 8 coaxially with the stationary drum 1 by opening a spacing. The tape 6 travels along a lead 5 at the bottom end in a direction 7. The ruggedness having 60 deg. angle with the direction 7 is formed by machining on the tape contact surface 2 of the drum 1 to a V shape of a depth 5mum and pitch 80mum. The tape 6 begins to float from the drum 1 and tends to float at a tape feed speed of 0.02m/s at the time of rewinding, fast feeding and high-speed searching by a squeeze effect in this constitution. As a result, the contact friction of the tape 6 with the drum 1 and the load of the driving system are decreased, the damage is prevented and the miniaturization and saving of electric power or a moron are attained.
