PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance image quality by eliminating the factor of noise generation in a solid-state image pickup element. SOLUTION: In this solid-state image pickup element is provided with an A/D converter to convert a plurality of signals from an image pickup area into digital signals, and a latch circuit latching output data of the A/D converter and selectively outputting the latched data. The latch circuit stores the data depending on a charging/discharging state of capacitors C2. The capacitors C2 are controlled so as to be simultaneously charged and then selectively discharged. In the element, current limit elements T11, T12, T13 are provided on paths for charging each capacitor C2.
