A system for guiding a cutting tool capable of cutting portions of a bone, comprising: a fixation assembly having a fastener for attaching the system to a side of the bone; an adjustment mechanism that includes: a base for fixedly attaching to the fixation assembly, anda mount pivotably attached to the base about a first axis and a second axis transverse to the first axis; a positioning mechanism that includes: a first arm having a first rotational axis, wherein the first arm is mounted to and rotatably coupled to the mount,a second arm having a second rotational axis substantially parallel to the first rotational axis,a motor configured to rotate at least one of the first and second arms about the respective first and second rotational axes, anda housing, wherein the first arm, the second arm, and the motor are housed within the housing; and a guide rotatably coupled to the second arm of the positioning mechanism and rotatable relative to the positioning mechanism about the second rotational axis spaced a fixed distance from the first rotational axis at all rotational positions of the positioning mechanism relative to the adjustment mechanism, wherein actuation of the motor causes the rotation of the at least one of the first and second arms to adjust a position of the guide relative to the adjustment mechanism.
