PURPOSE:To give an optimum machining condition corresponding to changes in loads at the beginning of a machining to a tool edge and improve the quality of a finished surface by arranging a feed speed selection means for commanding different intermediate feed speeds to respective sections divided by intermediate position points of changing feed speeds of the tool edge. CONSTITUTION:A speed change position point determination means 1 sets intermediate position points of changing feed speeds of a tool edge on a path extending from a position P1 where the tool edge enters a corner portion of a work M to a position P5 where the entrance of the tool edge into the corner portion of the work W by a feed distance of a tool edge radius D is finished. Next, the coordinate values of each of the intermediate position points obtained are registered temporarily in an intermediate position point register 5. Then a feed speed selection means 2 commands intermediate feed speeds F1-F5 registered in the register 5 by making the speeds F1-F5 correspond to a present position of the tool edge detected by a detection means 6, and gives a machining feed corresponding to changes in loads at the start of a machining to the tool edge. As a result, cutting work by means of the tool can be made efficiently and the quality of a finished surface can be improved.
