1,269,696. Poly (arylene sulphide) coating. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. 14 Aug., 1969 [15 Aug., 1968 (2)], No. 40702/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] A coating composition comprising a normally solid poly (arylene sulphide) and 0.5 to 50% by weight of titanium dioxide based on the total weight of poly (arylene sulphide) and titanium dioxide, is applied as a slurry in ethylene glycol, methyl alcohol, water or toluene, to metal substrates, e.g. of iron, steel, titanium or aluminium, dried and then cured by heating to 550‹-800‹F. The substrate may be heated at above 650‹F before the coating is applied. The polymer may be poly (phenylene sulphide). The composition also may contain a fluorocarbon polymer, e.g. poly (tetrafluoroethylene). Examples are given.
|
