Manual starting crank device for internal combustion engines

The invention relates to a manual starting crank device for internal combustion engines with a manual crank and a starting crank journal which can be coupled to the engine element to be turned by means of a carrier connection releasable in the direction of the axis of rotation, at least one drag element being connected to the starting crank journal, which element slides freely on the slideway fixed to the housing when the starting crank journal is turned in the starting direction but when turned in the opposite direction is held by the slideway and forced into a relative movement increasing the distance between slideway and swivel axis of the drag element and releasing the carrier connection. It is the object of the invention to create a starting crank device which is on the one hand cheap to manufacture and on the other reliably protects the operator against kickback of the hand crank during operation. This object is met in that the form and position of each drag element is selected in such a way that when the starting crank journal is turned in the opposite direction self-locking occurs between slideway and drag element. The carrier connection is thereby released and the hand crank freed. The arrangement is shown in Fig.1 of the enclosed drawing of the application. <IMAGE>
