Sensor assembly for investigating properties of sea bed

The sensor assembly is mounted on a carrier (1). The carrier may have an extension piece (24) on its outer end (23). Mounted on the carrier are one or more transmitters (2) and a number of receivers (3). The transmitters and receivers may be for ultrasound signals or for forms of electromagnetic radiation. The assembly is inserted into the bed of the sea or river via a bored hole. It is inserted horizontally from a protective cylindrical shield (9). The data from the sensors are analysed to build up a three dimensional "picture" of the components and layers of the sea bed.
