Radio location method for mobile communications station e.g. for emergency call location in mobile telephone network

The radio location method uses radio direction finding and propagation time measurement at the base station to which the mobile communications station is linked, the received bit clock of a response telegram compared with an internally generated reference clock for providing the distance of the mobile communications station from the base station. The bit clock of the response telegram is synchronized with the base station bit clock which is regularly varied, e.g. by displacement by a quarter bit step at regular time intervals.
