<p>PURPOSE:To quantize a vector with least quantization error by obtaining the scalar product of an input signal and a vector on the unit prolate spheroid, making a vector of the largest scalar product a representive vector, and nonlinearly compressing/elongating the scalar vector. CONSTITUTION:A television(TV) signal read from a camera 1 is digitized by an A/D converter 2, and edited in form of signals in the unit of two picture elements by a serial/parallel converter 3. And a resulting signal is used as an input signal for the quantization of vector. The scalar product of this input signal and the vector on the unit prolate spheroid is obtained by a scalar-product circuit 4. Resulting values are compared with each other by a comparator circuit 5, and the maximum value and the number of a vector to be largest are thereby outputted. The maximum value is quantized by a scalar quantization circuit 6, and transmitted to a transmission line along with the number of vector.</p> |
