<p>PURPOSE:To increase a rate of operation and to improve productivity by providing switching means in the middle of connecting cables so that a power can be supplied to one furnace alone or two furnace simultaneously and by enabling thereby supply of the power to either of DC arc furnaces. CONSTITUTION:A metal material is dissolved in an arc furnace 11, while an arc furnace 12 is stopped. AC power supplies transmitted to thyristors 31 and 32 from transformer 21 and 22 of a 50% power supply through cables 51 and 52 are converted into direct currents and connected to closed selector switches 42, 43, 45 and 47 via cathode cables 53 and 55 respectively. The DC currents from the selector switches 42 and 45 are transmitted to a cathode electrode 81 at a furnace top via a cable 61. By returning the DC current to the selector switches 43 and 47 from a furnace bottom anode via a cable 62, on the other hand, the current can be transmitted as a 100% power supply. By switching over the selector switches, besides, the arc furnace 12 can be operated as well.</p> |
