FIELD: organic chemistry, pharmacy. SUBSTANCE: invention describes new derivatives of oxazolyl- or thiazolylmethanol of the general formula (I) <EMI ID=0.102 HE=21 WI=42 TI=CHI> where X means O or S; R<SB>2</SB> means H; R<SB>2</SB> means H or lower alkyl; W means O or NH; R<SB>3</SB> means H, lower alkyl or lower acyl; A means phenyl furyl, thienyl, naphthyl, pyridyl or pyrrolyl possibly substituted with R<SB>6</SB> where R<SB>6</SB> means one or some groups taken among lower alkyl, halogen atom, lower alkoxy-group, CF<SB>3</SB>, OH, NO<SB>2</SB> or NR<SB>4</SB>R<SB>5</SB> where R<SB>4</SB> and R<SB>5</SB> mean independently H, lower alkyl or lower acyl, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid-additive salts under conditions that the following five compounds are not the subject of the present invention: 1-(4-methyl-5-thiazolyl)-1-phenylmethanol, 1-(2,4- -dimethyl-5-oxazolyl)-1-phenylmethanol, 1-(5-thiazolyl)-1- -phenylmethanol, 1-(4-oxazolyl)-1-phenylmethanol and 1-(2,4- -dimethyl-5-thiazolyl)-1-(2-chlorophenyl)-methanol. Compounds of the formula (I) elicite neuroprotective properties and can be used in medicine for treatment of patients with neurodegenerative disorders.
