PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for continuously carbonizing and activating a cellulosic fiber while preventing the cellulosic fiber from being burned and incinerated. SOLUTION: This apparatus has a preheating furnace 2 for evaporating water content in the cellulosic fiber, a heating furnace 21 for carbonizing the cellulosic fiber, and a cooling furnace for cooling the carbonized cellulosic fiber. An activating furnace 51 can be inserted between the heating furnace 21 and the cooling furnace 31. The outlet of the heating furnace 21 and the inlet of the cooling furnace 31 are connected with a pasage 25 between the heating furnace 21 and the cooling furnace 31. An inert gas-feeding opening 30 is installed in the side wall of the passage 25. When the activating furnace 51 is inserted, the feeding opening 30 is installed in the sidewall of the passage between the activating furnace 51 and the cooling furnace 31. Steam or the like is fed from the feeding opening 30. As a result, the reduction of the pressure caused by the change of an atmosphere is prevented to prevent the inflow of oxygen in the atmosphere, and further to prevent the fiber from being burned or incinerated. |
