PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve arbitrary read while taking the timing of an electronic shutter when pixels of an MOS type image sensor are read on a shift register basis. SOLUTION: In the MOS type image sensor, a shift register for an electronic shutter and a shift register for readout are shifted fast for lines where pixels not in an area specified for an arbitrary readout are present to suppress the readout of the lines. Fast shifts of the shift register for the electronic shutter and the shift register for readout are synchronized with each other with a predetermined phase difference. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
