In addition, embodiments may prevent channel access during the time interval by stations incapable of employing a first channel access technique. determine whether a randomly generated value is greater than or equal to an access probability,in response to determining that the randomly generated value is great than or equal to the access probability, perform carrier sensing, andin response to determining that the randomly generated value is less than the access probability, forego performing carrier sensing, andselect a second channel access technique during the second time interval; and a transceiver to access a channel according to the first channel access technique during the first time interval and the second channel access technique during the second time interval.
