Process to stop a ring spinning machine, fitted with pneumatic bearings, where an air cushion is formed by automatic suction into the gap between the spinning ring and the outer bearing in the ring rail, starts with a reduction in the spindle speed so that the spinning ring does not overtake the spindle and no more air is drawn in so that the spinning ring stops. The spindle speed is then increased until it reaches a value where the yarn cannot tangle during underwinding, and the spinning ring stays static. The spindle is then brought to an abrupt halt. Process ensures that the yarn does not tangle while the operating components are de-synchronised to give an orderly spinning off.
