In addition to the normal features of the kitchen work top a deep-fat fryer (7) and/or a grill unit (8) is provided next to the intake-area of the ventilation system (9,10). Where both units are provided they can be placed one either side of the extractor. To avoid heat loss the trough of the fryer and/or the trough of the grill can be inserted into the worktop using heat insulating members. The worktop can be made in one piece with provisions for all these appliances or as segments so that the required choices can be made.
