PURPOSE:To carry toner of which quantity is necessary for forming a visible image with prescribed density to a developing area by making a charge applying means close to the surface of a toner carrier and also constituting it of plural electrodes for discharging with reference to the toner carrier when a prescribed voltage is impressed on the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The charge applying means 34 is arrayed while mutually leaving prescribed interval in the axial direction of a developing roller 5, and is provided with a large number of needle-like electrodes 51 whose leading edges are arranged close to the surface of the developing roller 5 at a prescribed interval d1, and the base end side of the electrode 51 is implanted in a supporting member 52 and fixed in a comb tooth-like state. The base end of each electrode 51 is electrically connected with each other through a conductive body 53, and for example, a pulse-like alternating voltage is impressed on each electrode 51 by a power source 37, and the polarity is made to be a negative polarity reverse to the electrostatically charged polarity of the toner 4. Thus, the necessary quantity of the toner 4 which is electrostatically charged in large quantities is carried to the developing area 9, and the visible image having the desired density is formed. |
