A recording and reproducing device which is provided with a plurality of hard disks H1-Hp, an error checking section (12) for detecting writing errors on the hard disks H1-Hp, a memory (13) for storing the logical address of the hard disk H3 when a writing error is detected on the disk H3, and a computing element (14) that corrects the recording data to be recorded on the hard disk H3 when the writing error occurs on the disk H3 based on the recording data on the other hard disks H1, H2, and Hp on which no writing error occurs in order to output the corrected recording data when the logical address of the hard disk H3 on which the writing error is detected is instructed. Since the device can automatically correct a writing error which occurs on a hard disk at the time of writing, the device can be operated continuously without losing continuity on receiving a video and audio data recording or reproducing request. |
