PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel in which the secondary electron discharge is efficiently made and which is equipped with a protecting film having a high durability for ion bombardment in the electric discharge. SOLUTION: The specific surface area of a metal oxide film formed as the further protecting film of the dielectric layer formed on a display electrode is made to be not less than 50 m2 per 1 g of the film weight.
