PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine capable of efficiently collecting nano-particles by a filter.
SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine for collecting nano-particles contained in the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine comprises an exhaust passage for leading the exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine, a bypass passage bypassing a part of the exhaust passage, a flow regulating means regulating the flow of the exhaust gas flowing into the bypass passage, and an operating state detection means detecting the operating state of the internal combustion engine. The length of the bypass passage is set longer than the length of a part of the bypassed exhaust passage. When the operating state detection means detects a prescribed operating state, the flow regulating means allows all or a part of the exhaust gas to flow into the bypass passage. By allowing the exhaust gas to flow into the bypass valve, the residence time of the nano-particles in the exhaust gas can be increased. Thus, since the nano-particles can be changed to particulates with approximately the same size as that of PM by coagulating or increased in diameter by adsorbing and coagulating to the PM, the nano-particles can be efficiently collected by the filter on the downstream side of the flow regulating means.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
