PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can detect that an ADF cover is blocked while the number of components, assembly man hour of an image forming apparatus and cost are reduced, and to provide the image forming apparatus including the image reader.SOLUTION: An image reader 1 includes: a reading control section 61 which controls a second image reading section 28 and can switch a control mode of the second image reading section 28 to a first mode at which a line sensor 34 is caused to output a light amount detection result in a state where a light source 32 is lighted and a second mode at which the line sensor 34 is caused to output the light amount detection result in a state where the light source 32 is turned off; and a cover position determination section 62 for determining whether an ADF cover 40 is in a closed position or not by determining whether a detected light amount of the line sensor 34 when the control mode of the second image reading section 28 is at the second mode exceeds a threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
