PURPOSE:To efficiently perform purification of exhaust gas by carrying a catalyst which simultaneously contains a specified element selected from among groups IA, IP in the periodic table and a specified element selected from among rare earth elements on a heat resistant filter. CONSTITUTION:Cs, Cu and either one kind or two kinds of Ce and La are carried on a heat resistant filter as a catalyst. Thereby carbonbased fine particles in exhaust gas are oxidized and simultaneously nitrogen oxide is reduced while utilizing the carbon-based particles as a reducing agent and therefore exhaust gas is purified. Furthermore when Ag is carried on the filter in addition to the above-mentioned elements, the more excellent effect is obtained. In order to impregnate the filter with the catalytic elements, the filter is immersed in the soln. of acetate, carbonate, nitrate and hydroxide thereof and dried or calcined after drying. Both carbon-based fine particles and nitrogen oxide in exhaust gas are effectively removed by utilizing such the purifying material of exhaust gas and the purifying method. |
