The door handle spindle for a handle on one side of the door only, is secured to the latch boss by a pivoted lever and a locking slide. The design is less expensive to make than others incorporating threaded locking nuts or screws. The spindle (1) is forked at its inner end. A lever (5) is pivoted between the two sections of the forked spindle. During spindle installation, the two projections (7, 8) do not project beyond the upper and lower surfaces of the spindle (1). With the spindle inserted, the lever tilts so that the projections (7, 8) retain the spindle (1) in the boss (10). The slide (15) is pressed downwards, tight contact between the cam (18) and the oblique surface (13) preventing rotation of the lever.
