The caisson has a panel (1) made of a composite material which is divided into ballast compartments (17) by an internal framework. This is surrounded by a frame (2) which encloses the bottom (1) and sides (12) of the panel (1). The frame acts as ballast at the lower edge of the panel and forms a rigid support at the entrance of the dry dock. The frame is the same size as the panel where they join. The frame is made of concrete reinforced with fibreglass strips. The panel is attached to it with bolts and threaded rods (3) anchored in the concrete. The concrete in the upper section has less voluminal mass than that in the lower part. The side walls (2b) become thinner as they reach the top, also reducing the mass. The panel is made of a composite glass and resin material with transverse stiffeners (16). The panel is made of many caissons which are glued together with a layer of glass and resin composite on the side walls.
