PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically retrieve a built-in telephone directory to determine whether or not the data of a specified telephone number is registered and to display the result. SOLUTION: The telephone directory memory retrieving device of a portable telephone 1 is provided with an operating part 3 to which a user's operation instruction is inputted, a telephone directory memory 6 in which plural telephone numbers and respective correspondence data are stored, a telephone number temporary storage memory 7 which temporarily stores the telephone number of the opposite connection party at the time of ongoing and incoming calls, a controlling part 5 that retrieves whether or not the telephone number stored in the memory 7 is registered in the memory 6 and also controls the operation of each part and a displaying part 4 which shows various information including retrieval results of the memory 6.
