Substituted dihydroazepines are disclosed which have the formula:

<UnorderedLists id="ula01" listStyle="none"><ListItem>R' and R<Sup>4</Sup> can independently be, e.g., loweralkyl having up to 8 carbon atoms or NR<Sup>6</Sup>R<Sup>7</Sup> substituted loweralkyl having up to 5 carbon atoms wherein</ListItem><ListItem>R<Sup>6</Sup> and R<Sup>7</Sup> can independently be, e.g., hydrogen or loweralkyl of C<Sub>1</Sub>-C<Sub>8</Sub>;</ListItem><ListItem>R<Sup>2</Sup> and R<Sup>3</Sup> can independently be, e.g., hydrogen provided both R<Sup>2</Sup> and R<Sup>3</Sup> are not hydrogen at the same time; pentafluorophenyl;</ListItem><ListItem>substituted aryl wherein the ring contains 6 or 10 carbon atoms and bears 1-3 substituents; and</ListItem><ListItem>R and R<Sup>5</Sup> can independently be hydrogen or strain chain or branched lower alkyl having up to 8 carbon atoms.</ListItem></UnorderedLists>

Their preparation and the use thereof as calcium channel blockers are also disclosed.
