PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the luminance of an optical unit if need. SOLUTION: An illumination optical system is provided with a light source, a lens array 320 constituted of a plurality of lenses for dividing light emitted from the light source into a plurality of partial luminous fluxes and a polarized light converting element array 360 adjusting the polarization direction of light. A light shielding material 350 controlling incident light quantity to a polarized light separation film installed in the polarized light converting element array 360 is disposed between the lens array 320 and the polarized light converting element array 360. |
