A liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to prevent the leakage of light caused by the misalignment between an array substrate and a color filter substrate. A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device comprises the following steps of: providing the first substrate; forming an intaglio pattern by etching a portion of the first substrate through the first mask process; forming a black matrix(106) within the intaglio pattern of the first substrate; forming the first insulating layer on the first substrate; forming source/drain electrodes(122, 123), a data line(117) and a pixel electrode(118) on the black matrix of the first substrate through the second mask process; and forming an active pattern on the black matrix through the third mask process. |
