PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording method and a recording and reproducing method of multiplexed streams which can quickly extract only packets necessary at least in reproduction of an arbitrary program without reading all multiplexed streams recorded on a recording medium. SOLUTION: A PID (Packet Identification) distinction unit 2 discriminates a TS (Transport Stream) packet including information regarding all multiplexed streams and a packet PG (Packet Group) including image/voice presentation data regarding to each program based on PSI (Program Section Information) information, and stores them in respective different buffers 3, 4, 5. A pack composition buffer 6 composes separately respective outputs of the buffers 3, 4, 5 into groups adjoining in order of input time, and collectively creates one pack. Pack region information showing recording regions for each packet unit, and a group region information showing recording regions of the respective group in the pack, are created.
