PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zinc oxide ceramic composition and a manufacturing method of a zinc oxide varistor having excellent electrical properties, reliability against DC and surge loads and stability in heat treatment, which can be sintered at 750-1,100 deg.C, especially at a low temperatures of <=1,000 deg.C. SOLUTION: To zinc oxide, at least bismuth oxide, antimony oxide, iron oxide, and an aluminum compound, and then 0.1-5.0 pts.wt. of a synthetic compound containing boron oxide and chromium oxide (vs. 81.38 pts.wt. (1 mole) of zinc oxide) are added, mixed, shaped and fired to give a zinc oxide ceramic composition. Electrodes are formed on both surfaces of the ceramic composition and leads are connected to them to give a disk-type varistor. |
