The invention refers to a marine navigation radar system, where the need for multiple antennas mounted on a ship is removed by creating a new type of radar antenna where several antenna arrays are stacked on top of each other into one antenna assembly housed in one single radome. The number of antennas in the assembly can be as many as four or even more and the antenna assembly is furthermore gyro stabilized to create a stable and more constantly updated radar picture. An important feature of the invention is the considerably increased update rate of the radar picture. Another important feature of the invention is the possibility to operate the individual antennas in the assembly independently, which will result in one or a few antennas being "locked" on nearby ships, oil-rigs, navigation buoys or reference points. |
