Membrane filtration of potato water - in which the membrane is periodically or continuously sterilised to reduce smell

During membrane filtration of material which supports microbiological growth the membrane is treated with a sterilising substance continuously or at intervals. Used esp. in the membrane filtration of effluent from the processing of potatoes to produce potato starch. The growth on the membrane of organisms which produce unpleasant smells is reduced or eliminated. This makes it easier to dispose of the concentrated suspension leaving the filter. Only small quantities of water are needed for flushing.
