Traffic information system using roadside devices

The roadside devices are each provided with a measuring device (4) for detecting the velocity of each passing vehicle. There is an information transmitter (3), supplying the measured velocity information to a following vehicle (6), provided with an onboard receiver (7). The velocity information may be transmitted via an infrared (IR) or microwave link, with the received velocity information supplied to an optical and/or acoustic information device for the vehicle driver. The speed measurement may be by using an electronic arrangement, especially with radar or a video camera.
