PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transfer data in a data format optimum for the sides of transmission and reception. SOLUTION: A CPU 36 of digital camera 2 receives reception side data format information from a printer 3, compares this reception side data format information (receivable data format name and its priority data) with data in the 'conversion destination data format' column of data format conversion table expanded in a RAM 34, selects the data of the highest priority out of data formats which are convertible by the digital camera 2 (transmittable) and receivable by a printer 3 and sets them as the data format of image data to be transmitted. Then, a corresponding data format conversion program is read from a ROM 33 and after the data format of image data to be transmitted has been converted into this set data format, these image data are transmitted to the printer 3.
