PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce flickers without decreasing contrast of a picture when driving an LCD. SOLUTION: This method for driving an LCD comprises a process for arranging the prescribed number of columns, the prescribed number of rows, and the prescribed number of pixels for the LCD, and a process for driving the LCD by inverting the columns, rows, and pixels plural times, and thereby an fringe electric field effect is decreased. It is possible that the number of the columns (m) is made to an arbitrary integer between 2 and the number of scanning lines, and the number of rows (n) is made to an arbitrary integer between 2 and the number of the columns. The polarities (17, 18, 19) of the electric fields applied to the pixels in two successive frames are inverted by the signal waveforms (12, 13, 14) using a pixel inversion method.
