PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biodegradable absorber that prevents adherence due to gel blocking or moisture absorption and enhances a liquid absorption rate. SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the granular absorber comprises extruding a mixed aqueous solution containing viscose and calcium carbonate of a 0.1-2.5 fold by weight of a cellulosic equivalent amount in the viscose continuously at a line speed of 5-50 cm/s from a discharging nozzle of an inner diameter of 0.2-2.0 mm, forming a minute droplet of the mixed aqueous solution due to surface tension of the mixed aqueous solution, coagulating/regenerating the minute droplet by contacting it with an acidic aqueous solution, and expanding the calcium carbonate. The resulting granular absorber contains cellulose as a main component, the particle size of which is 0.2-2.0 mm and the prescribed absorption time of which for water is 1-300 s.
