PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prophylactic or remedy for disease, including heart disease, autoimmune disease, inflammatory disease, and septic shock, excellent in efficacy and safety. SOLUTION: An agent for inhibiting production of nitrogen monoxide (NO) and/or cytokine contains a compound expressed by formula (1) [R is a substitutable aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a substitutable aromatic hydrocarbon group, a substitutable heterocyclic group, a group expressed by the formula: OR<SP>1</SP>(R<SP>1</SP>is H or a substitutable aliphatic hydrocarbon group) or a group expressed by formula (2) (R<SP>1b</SP>and R<SP>1c</SP>are identical to or different from each other and are each H or a substitutable aliphatic hydrocarbon group) and R<SP>0</SP>is H or a substitutable aliphatic hydrocarbon group, or R and R<SP>0</SP>in combination represent a bond; and Ar represents a substitutable aromatic hydrocarbon group expressed by formula (3) (n represents an integer of 1 to 4)] or a salt thereof.
