The present invention provides a method for marking thread or fibre. The thread or fibre is made to pass through a coating solution comprising particles of a marker material so as to apply the marker material to the thread or fibre (110). Thereafter, the thread or fibre is subjected to a curing process (120). Presence of the marker material is detectable even after the thread or fibre has been subjected to extreme handling conditions (130).
