The sensor has a first inertial body (4) that can move at an angle to a road plane from a rest position and activate a restraining system if acceleration in this direction exceeds a threshold. A second inertial body (10) can move perpendicularly to the road plane and prevents activation if the first body moves out of its rest position by accelerations caused by road unevenness. The inertial bodies move against the force of a spring (6,12'). Independent claims are also included for a restraining system and for a motor vehicle.
