PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the capacity of a power converter capable of direct AC/AC conversion using a small capacity semiconductor module. SOLUTION: In the inventive power converter, a semiconductor module for direct AC/AC conversion is connected between three phases of an AC three-phase power supply and one phase (e.g. phase U) of an AC three-phase load.
