957,776. Hatch covers. INSTITUT FUR SCHIFFBAU. June 3, 1960 [Feb. 20, 1960], No. 19742/60. Heading B7S. A hatch cover comprises elements 2 which are interconnected and which are wound on or off the reel 3, 4, as it moves across the coaming, to open or close the hatchway. The reel 3, 4 is moved by cables 9a, 9b and is provided with discs 5 at each end of varying diameter to allow for each successive layer of elements. Each disc associates with a staggered length of rail 6 disposed on the coaming 7 which also serves to guide the reel across the hatchway. The discs 5 are spirally cut over a portion of their diameters to provide an even lead in. The peripheries of the discs 5 may be serrated to engage pins welded to the rails. |
