The cyclic adaptation of gear-changing characteristic in an automatic gearbox of a motor vehicle

A procedure for the cyclic adaptation of a characteristic for the changes in an automatic gearbox includes gear-change strategies which determine correction values to adapt the gear-change in response to external influencing variables such as gradient or catalytic converter temperature. An algorithm correlates the measured values of the external influencing variables and is used to adapt the characteristic in respect of both the coordinate indicating speed of travel and that indicating engine torque. Separate correction values may be used for upward and downward gear-changes. The speed-related coordinate of the point on the characteristic map representing kickdown may also be subject to a correction value.
