PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a methacrylic resin having excellent thermal decomposition resistance, extremely slight thermal discoloration and excellent transparency. SOLUTION: This method for producing a methacrylic resin comprises, in polymerizing methyl (meth)acrylate alone or a monomer mixture consisting essentially of methyl (meth)acrylate, adding 0.02-3.0 pts.wt. of dimethyl 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionate) and 0.0-1.5 pts.wt. of an alkylmercaptan to 100 pts.wt. of the monomer or the monomer mixture and carrying out suspension polymerization.
