PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic drive unit that suppresses an impact force of a piston rod acting on a control rack and pinion of a fuel injection pump in a stopped state of the diesel engine. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic drive unit is provided with a piston that moves back against the spring owing to energisation of the electromagnetic coil and moves forward by the urging force of the spring owing to demagnetization, a chamber A sealed off from the outside and defined by the piston having its capacity decreased when the piston moves back and increased when it moves forward, and chamber B defined by the piston having its capacity increased/ decreased in reverse to the chamber A. It is further provided with a throttle hole that allows the valve to be always communicated between chambers A and B, and is opened by the air flow from chamber A to B and closed in reverse. This makes it possible to suppress the speed at which the piston rod of the piston ejects.
