The present invention describes an autonomous illumination device, which consists of a long useful life storing unit based on supercapacitors recharged by photovoltaic modules and which are able to supply at least a high power light emitting lamp. Likewise, said storing unit has a charge indicating panel, a protection against short circuit of automatic reset and a port for connecting an ancillary charge with an energy consumption equivalent to the number of lamps for which the device was designed. The Led lamps use at least three Leds at low current, instead of a single device at high current for maximising the electro-luminous efficiency thereof. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a reliable source of illumination with a long useful life and without exchangeable pieces to people of a low standard of living in deprived zones without electricity. In addition, the invention is intended to improve the quality of life of the users upon replacing combustible illumination so urces, which avoid the human development and result risky, inefficient and very expensive at a long term.
