ILLUMINATOR AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator with low power consumption making a light guide body emit bright light and a bright and clear liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: A first light transmission body 3 is arranged along an end face 4a of a second light transmission body 4. Light from a light source 2 incident on the first light transmission body 3 is refracted to a direction nearly perpendicularly intersecting the incident direction from an incident end face 3a and is made incident on the second light guide body 4 from the one end face 4a. The second light guide body 4 has an upper surface 6 and a lower surface placed opposite to each other in a part sandwiched by the one end face 4a and the other end face 4b. The upper surface 6 is provided with a first stepped face where thickness of the second light guide body 4 gradually gets thinner as going from the one end face 4a to the other end face 4b and successively a second stepped face where thickness of the second light guide body 4 gradually gets thicker. A reflection body 7 is arranged on the other end face 4b.
