The floor assembly comprises a number of strips (1) each defining a length and width and provided with either end tongues or end grooves along the side and end edges. The floor is laid in groups each comprising a number of tongue and groove assembled strips fastened to a subfloor (3) by a screw (6). The screw head (8) is covered by a cover plug (9). - The screw is driven into the subfloor via at least one stepped transverse hole (5) designed with at least one step (4) in the respective strip and resting against the step (4) with a fastener head (8) covered by a cover plug (9) in the transverse hole. The plug is made of a strong and durable metal e.g. bronze or steel. The length of each strip is longer than the width of the strip multiplied by the number of strips in a group.
