PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing agricultural chemicals and drugs in high yield without causing side reactions, by reacting a readily obtainable a halogenated benzaldehyde with a metallic fluoride in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A halogenated benzaldehyde shown by formula I (X is the same or different and Cl, Br or I; n is 1-5) as a raw material is reacted with a metallic fluoride by the use of at least one selected from the group consisting of a quaternary phosphonium salt and a quaternary ammonium salt as a catalyst, more preferably in a combination of at least one selected from the quaternary phosphonium sat and the quaternary ammonium salt and at least one selected from crown ether and a polyalkylene glycol preferably in a solventless state at 150-300 deg.C at normal pressure or under pressure of <=10kg/cm<2> to give a compound shown by formula II (m is 1-5; n>=m). The amount of the crown ether used is preferably <=4mol based on 1mol quaternary ammonium salt. |
