PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for testing a squamous cell, and to provide a method for screening a medicine for treating the squamous cell cancer. SOLUTION: The mutation of the 2,128th base (exon 17) of FGFR3 gene in a squamous cancer cell from guanine to thymine and/or the production of FGFR3 protein having a mutation in the 697th amino acid in the squamous cancer cell from glycine to cysteine serve(s) as a help in diagnosing/treating the squamous cancer.
