An automobile seat, which can be folded from a normal position to a flat position (Fig. 9), comprises a seat cushion 12, a seat back 16, and a supporting element. The seat cushion may be forwardly rotated about a front end supporting fulcrum 101 from the normal position to an inverted position in which its reverse surface 12a is substantially horizontal. The seat back may be forwardly folded about a lower end supporting fulcrum 102 from the normal position to a fall-down position in which its rear surface 16a is substantially horizontal and substantially co-planar with the reverse surface 12a of the seat cushion. The supporting element fixes the seat cushion and seat back so that they may be slidable from a first position to a second position. By sliding the seat backwards, the seat may be folded flat when there would otherwise be insufficient room in front of the seat. An automatic locking mechanism 13,19 may be provided so that the seat cushion and seat back cannot be rotated unless the seat is first slid backwards from its first position to its second position. |
